Require candidates to get broad support in order to lead our city
How does it work?
Single Winner Ranked Choice Voting aka The Alternate Vote
Who uses it?
Places all over the US and World use it. Boulder, Broomfield, and Fort Collins use it. The recent election in NYC probably made a lot more people familiar with it. Australia and Scotland use the form that is also used in Colorado.
Why use it?
Ranked Choice Voting lets voters rank candidates in order of preference. Instead of choosing just one, you can express your true support and help elect candidates with broad appeal. This gives every vote more power and makes elections more civil and representative.
You don't need vote pragmatically between the two front runners. You can pick your top choice as number 1 and then rank the rest of the candidates. You also don't need to rank any of the candidates.
